Saturday Morning in the Bronx
My dear friend Charlie has had a rough couple of weeks. Illness, hospital stay, missing family time and disappointment in not being able to help others. I stopped to see him and felt his despair. One of his many services to others includes driving. To pick up donations for Haiti, taking religious to the airport or doctors appointments or the monthly food delivery for the friaries and convents. He does so much! I urged him to let others help him during this time. I prayed to

October 2025 Reflection
Poverty and Providence Sr. Catherine, CFR During rush hour traffic it is not unusual to pass someone begging in the middle of the interstate near Yankee Stadium. Since this is a regular occurrence all over New York City, we stock our cars with what we call “car packs” – a small Ziploc bag with a few granola bars, a napkin, and a Divine Mercy card. Recently on my way upstate for hermitage (two days of prayer which we take monthly), I was driving slowly enough in traffic to see

November 2025 Reflection
Christ the King Sr. Cecilia, CFR The rulers sneered at Jesus and said, "He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Christ of God. Even the soldiers jeered at him. As they approached to offer him wine they called out, ‘If you are King of the Jews, save yourself.’" (Lk. 23:35-37) This, the opening of the Gospel for the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, is not exactly what one expects to hear on such a triumphant day. Indeed, in th

FRIAR PICNIC- I think I found out the reason why we could not rent the Pavillion for our Picnic. The Ryder Cup was being held at Bethpage State Park. So I’m sure this is the reason. They were not taking any reservations for the month of September. We are already coming up with dates for next year so we will schedule a date for next September! FRIAR AND SISTER DONATIONS- These donations have been decreasing for the past 5 months. If you haven’t been giving for food for the Fri

August 2025 Reflection
Re-Creation Sr. Cecilia, CFR August is a month when many of us go on vacation. The kids are on their long summer break, the days are (hopefully) sunny and warm, and it is a good time for some relaxation. In our work-driven society, it is important to take time to slow down and rest. We have so many conveniences-just imagine washing clothes by hand or sending messages by someone on foot or horseback-yet we are busier than ever. We are all aware of the fast-paced changes in tec

February Friar Packing
Ken and Mary did the grocery shopping for the Friars and Sisters this month. They fill up the van. The next day I drive it to St. Crispin's. I meet Chris there, who does the meat shopping. Then we unload. From there the food is sorted and then delivered to the other Friaries and convents. This happens every month, Charlie is hoping to take a ride with me in March to visit the Friars. You can never out give God. I even got a blessing from Fr. Terry before I left. I feel lik
