Friar Suppliers August 2022

August 2022

“The whole creation proclaims the greatness of your glory.”

Hello dear Friar Suppliers,

We hope you are enjoying your summer thus far. Hot and hazy, lazy days of summer are the best for rejuvenating our bodies, and souls. “On August 15th we celebrate the oldest feast of Our Lady - The Assumption. The feast has its origins in the years after Jerusalem was restored to a sacred city and the “Memory of Mary” was being celebrated. It is a rich history and it brings us to “The Assumption of Mary,” since we celebrate more than just her dying. Mary was taken

up to heaven, body, and soul.”

“Though there is no recorded date of her death. Mary is said to have died in the presence of the apostles. Her earthly remains were never found in the tomb at the edge of Jerusalem. Many are of the opinion that Mary was raised again to life and then was transferred to her heavenly home. “Despite centuries of celebrations and ancient beliefs surrounding the

Assumption of Mary, it wasn’t until 1950 that Pope Pius XII, in the Apostolic Constitution Munificentissimus Deus, defined the dogma of the Assumption of Mary: “The Immaculate Mother of God, the ever-virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heaven.” With this, the Assumption was declared a truth revealed by God.”

Mary is the most famous woman in history. Would you believe she has appeared on the cover of Time Magazine more than any other person? Mary always points us to Jesus; we come to Christ through Mary, as the Mother of God -Theotokos, or God-bearer. We venerate Mary. We do not worship her. We pray to Mary to intercede on our behalf.” August 15th is a holy day of obligation, requiring us to celebrate the feast by attending Mass.

“August 22nd is the feast of the Queenship of Mary. On October 11th, 1954, Pope Pius XII established the Feast of the Queenship of Mary to be celebrated throughout the world and commanded that on that day each year, the world should renew its consecration to her.” “The purpose of the Feast is that all may recognize more clearly and venerate more devoutly the merciful and motherly sovereignty of her who bore God in her womb.”

(Ven. Pius XII, Ad. Coeli Reginam)

“On the day of her Assumption, Mary was solemnly crowned by Christ and received by the whole court of Heaven as Queen.” “What Christ has done in Heaven and the Church has done on our behalf we should now do individually, that is, we should recognize Mary’s Queenship, enthrone her in our homes, consecrate ourselves to her and, by this means, establish in our lives the reign of Mary Immaculate Queen of the Universe.”

The next time you are praying the glorious mysteries of the rosary this month, you can meditate on the fourth mystery; the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the Fifth mystery; the Coronation of Our Lady. Both are beautiful feasts in the month of August.

REMINDERS:

Sorry, but there is NO PICNIC this September.

If you move and change your address or any of your contact information, PLEASE inform us.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

This September we have 12 new men entering the CFRs as “Postulants.” We usually get introduced to them at the picnic each year. Hopefully, there will be another opportunity to meet them soon. There will also be 3 new women entering the FSR as Candidates. We welcome them all and pray for their vocations. The Postulants from last year now move from St. Joseph’s Friary in Harlem to Most Blessed Sacrament Friary in Newark to begin their novitiate. Becoming a Friar or Sister, is a step-by-step, little by little discernment and formation process. We continue to pray for their vocations.
