HAITI PACK NOVEMBER 2022

HAITI MISSION TRIP BEGINS JANUARY 15, 2023

GANGS, MURDER, STARVATION, HIGH INFLATION!

Dear Friar Suppliers and Friends,

Each year in January we have our annual Friar Suppliers Building project. This year is no exception. Further down, you can read about what we will be doing. The gang situation in Haiti has gotten worse. Roads are almost impassable Monday thru Saturday. The gangs seem to allow the stores and Banks to be open only on Sundays. So all shopping gets done then. We have been having wood delivered for our houses. Next month I’ll send some pictures of the quantity of wood that is necessary to build 65 houses and 65 latrines. Luckily the price of wood has remained stable from last year to this year. But last year it went up 30%.

Because of the number of Gangs in Haiti and how they limit travel we are hiring an additional 12 more security guards bringing our number to 30! Most of our Security Guards also are Haiti Police Officers. They made a deal with the gangs to allow us to do our work all week long and not be bothered. They agreed if I pay them $5000! I feel it is cheap insurance so that the food, the wood, and all our men can do the work SAFELY! They will get $2500 now and $2500 after ALL THE WORK IS DONE! Ferdinand who is our main translator negotiated this deal.

Our budget for this trip is a whopping $305,000! It’s a lot of money but we will be doing so much good work! I need everyone’s help with this. I’ve linked our annual video so you can see the work that we do, you can click here. ERIC COPPA-CROSS OF EWTN TV STATION PRODUCED IT. HE HAS BEEN TO HAITI WITH US BEFORE. IT'S ONLY 38

MINUTES LONG AND I BELIEVE IT REALLY SHOWS OUR MISSION IN ITS ENTIRETY!

I need to start sending money soon so PLEASE DON’T WAIT! If you belong to a Parish organization maybe you could ask the other members to help me help the POOR!

HAITI JANUARY 15-28, 2023

We are still hoping that our trip to Haiti will happen this year. Over the past 3 years, we

have been preparing men to be crew leaders in case we couldn’t come for one reason or another.

HOUSES: 2 years ago we built 50 houses then last year we did 60 and this year it will be 65. Last year as we were driving through the countryside and talking to people we decided to choose people for this year depending on extreme need. Some of these houses aren’t fit for an animal never mind humans! Each year we also build houses for our workers. This year we have 20 to build for our workers.

The wood prices have finally started to stabilize, but the cost is just a little more than last year. Houses will also have a gutter system so it will catch the rainwater with a blue barrel. Each house gets a small solar light so they can charge their cell phone and each house has a light attached. We will be staining the houses again this year. Each family will receive a water purifier donated by Molly and Rick Jesse who did all the fundraising. Price to build each house this year is almost $1500.00 up almost $200 from last year. So the total for houses is $97,000. Can you help us build one or part of one?

LATRINES: Again we will be building one latrine for each house. Each will have a concrete floor. The cost of each will be $1000! But without latrines they get Cholera and Cholera KILLS! It will cost $65,000. Each homeowner is responsible for digging the hole. The deeper the hole the longer it will last. Most holes are 60-70 feet deep!

HAITIAN WORKERS AND TRANSLATORS: each year we hire men to do the work. For most of my men, this is the only week of the year when they get CASH. Mostly they barter and trade.

Each of our Haitian workers and translators gets paid $200. Our Security guards get paid $250.00because they have more responsibility. We also employ 11 women to do the cooking. They get paid the same as the workers, $200.00 the average wage in Haiti if you can find a job is $10.00 PER WEEK! So you can see we treat them fair. While working for us they get 2 meals a day. Breakfast and Lunch. Most Haitians only eat every other day so they love the meals! In addition to the pay, on the last day, we give them 50lbs of rice, and 50lbs of beans, and a soccer ball. What do you think they like the best, YUP the soccer ball! So the total cost for salary, rice, beans, soccer balls, and 2 meals a day is $78,000.

EVANGELIZATION PROGRAM: For the past 5 years we have been doing an evangelization

program. It used to be with the kids in the neighborhood but we are changing it a bit. We have

almost 400 orphans that roam the streets looking for something to do or getting into trouble. So this year we will take the 400 kids divide them into groups of 20 and teach them their faith and right from wrong. They will get breakfast and lunch each day. We send clothes each week from New York so we will give each kid 3 sets of clothes and put them in a bag so they can carry them around. The cost for this program is $5000

CLOTHING AND SHOE HANDOUT: Each week from my house in New York 13 barrels are sent to Haiti filled with food, clothing, and medical supplies. Then in Haiti, we give shoes and clothes to all of our Workers, Translators, Cooks, and Orphans that we employ. Anything left over goes to our school to be given out to the parents for their kids. Each week our shipping bill is $2080! Yes, every week! You and St Joseph make it happen. But we still have the shipping!

BAPTISM: About 4 years ago we started paying for babies to be baptized. In Haiti, Baptisms are not free. Priests in Haiti do not receive a salary and rely totally on divine providence. It cost $15.00 to have a baby baptized. In the past, we have been baptizing 50 babies. I had a dream this past September. In the dream, God asked me why I limited it to 50 babies. I replied I didn’t know. He asked me did he ever let the work I do in Haiti fail. Were you EVER SHORT to pay for the projects? I replied “No Lord” so go and baptize my children. I’ve told the Principal of the school to take the names and phone numbers of all parents interested and do Baptismal Prep for each! Right now I have 71 names on the list!

OTHER PROJECTS:

78 BLIND FAMILIES: 50 lb. bag of rice per month: $22,000.00

ANNUAL REPLACEMENT OF CHICKENS:$5000.00

ANNUAL DONATION TO SCHOOL:$7500.00

SO THE TOTAL COST WITHOUT ANY ISSUES IS $303,500!

I need all of you in order to help God's poor. Remember Friar Suppliers has no overhead. So every dollar raised goes to the poor. We all volunteer our time and talents. You get lots of graces by donating your treasures. Please read through these projects and see which you would be willing to help with. This is the OFFICIAL START of our fundraising. So I need both your prayers and financial help.

We are 501C3 so your donation is tax-deductible. On your check please write HAITI 2022!

Please mail all checks to

FRIAR SUPPLIERS

108 North Greene Ave

Lindenhurst, New York

Like last year if you were helping a specific Missionary that was going on the trip please write their name in the MEMO so we can give them credit. We have almost all the same team coming this year. All Missionaries have to do fundraising and we will credit their account. If you don’t know a name that’s no problem. Mark it GENERAL FUND.

So please watch the video and enjoy it. Please share it with your Family. If you are having family over for the Holidays please watch it with them and encourage them to donate and also get the graces!

In Christ's name always,

Charlie Moran

IF YOU COULD MAKE COPIES OF THIS LETTER AND SEND IT TO FAMILY AND

FRIENDS OR CALL ME AT (631) 682-4298 I CAN EMAIL IT TO YOU. ALSO BECAUSE OF THE SIZE OF OUR MAILING LIST, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO REMEMBER FROM ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT IF YOU DON’T WANT A DVD. JUST GIVE IT AWAY OR BRING IT TO CHURCH. IT TAKES 20 PEOPLE JUST TO GET THESE MAILED OUT AND COUNTLESS HOURS!

THANKS
