Diana Curtis Reflection Letter

Updated: Nov 18, 2021

My son told me of this mission trip that he was going on and I thought what a better way to spend some time with my son than to go on this trip with him. It scared me at first since I had never done anything like this before. I thought why not? Let's do this.

We arrived in Haiti and took a bus ride to our destination in the mountains. The drive there was incredible. I was in shock at the conditions these people were living in. The homes were boxes. I could not ever imagine it unless I had seen it with my own eyes.

The Haitian people are a beautiful group of people. They were so friendly and so happy we were there. There were many ways I saw Jesus. One of the ways I saw him was through this Haitian worker named JP. He was always smiling and genuinely happy every time he saw us. He invited one of the women to his home to show her where he lived. I didn't want her to go alone so I tagged along. He wanted to introduce us to his wife and family. Once there he went out of his way to make us feel welcome. All he wanted was for us to sit and visit. He had nothing but he genuinely was happy with just his family. He was so proud of them. All he wanted was to get them the clothes and shoes. He didn't care about getting anything for himself. He just wanted to make sure his family was taken care of. It was beautiful and refreshing to see someone who was not worried about himself but wanted to take care of his family.

After that visit to his home every time he saw me, he greeted me with a hug, got out his phone, and used his translator to just talk to me. It really was special. I met many wonderful people on this trip. It was one I will never forget. Charlie, you are one special man, I really enjoyed meeting you on this trip!

God bless you for all the work you do.
